The Owens Family

Owens is the surname of a Mixed Blood family in Wales. They were a big and traditional family who were well off and were mostly all sorted into Gryffindor House at Hogwarts Scotland. They have always lived in big houses, had big families, and kept close to their homeland until the 21st century.

History

The Owens family has a long history of being sorted into Gryffindor House. Ella and Arthur, along with 4 out of their 5 children, were all sorted into the house, and did quite well during their schooling. 2 of them became prefect, one of them became quidditch captain, and unfortunately the eldest child, Alfie Owens, passed away in his third year in 2009.

Heading further into the 21st century, the traditional nature began fading as they were accepting of those who were homosexual, which was a big step for the Owens family. Mia Owens was the first to come out as gay in 2011 at the age of 14. They also became accepting of muggles, allowing their children to talk and interact with them. Muggle-borns will then become part of the family through marriage.

Up until around the mid 21st century, the Owens family stayed very much to themselves. They disowned anyone who wasn’t sorted into Gryffindor with the idea that they were evil and not truly belonging to their family. If an Owens family member was not sorted into Gryffindor, they were mostly always sorted into Slytherin, which they believe had always had a bad name. This was due to an incident right before the first Wizarding War in 1971 when a Slytherin family member murdered another family member who was well respected and joined the Death Eater Army. Frightened, they then implemented this rule in order to stay away from a bad reputation. In 2016 Ifan Owens was disowned and put up for adoption when he was sorted into Slytherin House at Hogwarts Scotland.

Soon after, the Owens family began to spread a little from their homeland. They travelled to America and New Zealand, marrying people from those countries and expanding their families outside of Wales. They also married into Chinese ancestry, mixing their blood with very different people and becoming more diverse.

The Owens family also became open to adopting their first child. In 2023 they adopted Teila Donoghue, changing her name to Teila Owens. The name soon changed however as Teila’s mother, Mia Owens, married Betrys Lee and their surname was then Owens-Lee. Teila had four younger adopted siblings before adopting a child of her own in 2052.

In 2038, disowning children that were sorted into Slytherin became a thing of the past when Charlotte Owens was sorted into Slytherin House, however still stayed a part of the family. It was kept a secret from her grandparents Ella and Arthur Owens, however eventually, in 2043, they found out and inevitably ceased speaking to Charlotte’s father (their son) for a few years until Charlotte became a professional quidditch player for the Holyhead Harpies in 2046. The Owens name was then internationally known. Charlotte did not change her surname upon getting married in 2049. Her children picked up the surname Owens-Rosemary.

Etymology

The name Owen is of Welsh and Celtic origin. The name Owen dates back to the Renaissance era when it was primarily used as a Welsh surname. Owen also has religious roots; St. Owen was a well-known Benedictine monk and follower of St. Chad. Its meanings range from noble, youthful, and well-born.

The Owens Family Residency

The Owens Family during the early days have always lived in big houses within Wales. Mia Owens,

Arthur and Ella's second child, lived in a big house with their adopted family. The house's floor plan is

pictured below. It had a vintage vibe and a big Alder tree at the front with a cobblestone path leading up to

the front patio.

Jacob Owens, Arthur and Ella's third child, moved to New Zealand with his wife and two children. They lived in a smaller house with three bedrooms and one bathroom. It is the only Owens residency with a muggle television.
