Ruto Vernier-Raison
Ruto "Roo" Vernier-Raison (b. 29 October, 2046) is a Mixedblood witch and the eldest daughter to Isabelle Vernier and Link Raison. She began attending Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry in New Zealand in 2057 at the customary age of 11.
Early Life (2046-2056)
Ruto Amelie Vernier is the eldest child of Mixed Blood wizard Link Raison and Halfblood witch Isabelle Vernier. She was born on the twenty-ninth day of October, 2046 at St. Mungo's Hospital in New Zealand. Her first language is English, but she does know quite a bit of French taught to her by her mother. Her father picked her first name, whilst her second name is after
her grandmother on her mother's side.
In 2055, when Ruto was 8 years old, her father eventually left both her and
her mother after he kept coming back and forth for his job. He and Ruto's
mother decided it best that he just leave for good, leaving the two behind in
New Zealand while he moved around the world for his job. This deeply
upset Ruto and she suddenly felt deep hatred for her father as she saw
how heartbroken this left her mother as it ended their relationship.
A few months later in 2056, Ruto's step-grandmother, Clarissa Vernier, ran
for Minister of Magic.
Hogwarts Years (2057-2064)
First Year
Ruto was looking forward to finally attending Hogwarts and seeing what the castle had to offer. She couldn't wait to explore it. The sorting ceremony was nerve wracking and the Sorting Hat almost sorted her into Gryffindor. As Roo really wanted to follow the footsteps of her mother, she thought of nothing but Ravenclaw House in that moment, and ultimately the Sorting Hat decided to give her what she wanted. She was very happy for this and knew that her mother would be proud.
One of the first things Ruto decided to do was join some clubs. She attended the club fair and found herself taking interest in the Wild Patch Club, The Conglomerated Arts Club, Accio!, and the Hogwarts Monthly. They would all definitely keep her busy, and they all seemed like too much fun for Ruto to say no to.
One of the first people Roo met at Hogwarts was Max Goose. He was in Gryffindor House and the pair of them loved exploring together. They both had a knack for finding out more about the castle, and this is how they bonded.
For Halloween, Roo decided to go all out. She attended the Halloween party as a bloody human and was magically enhanced so that she appeared normal from one angle and covered in blood from another. Her mother was the one who helped her with this. Unfortunately however, she didn't win any prizes.
As Roo returned home for the break at the end of the year, her mother had informed her that they were moving out into their own home, away from the big Vernier household. While it was good that she could now have a bit more space to herself, she was upset that it was only just the two of them. Roo didn’t like holding onto the past, but her father was one thing that could never leave her, even though he most certainly did. Everything else she was able to forgive and forget, but for some reason she couldn’t let this one thing go.
Second Year
As Roo headed into her second year, she was excited to be back so that she could do some more exploring with Max. She also decided to sign up for some Rose Deliveries, so that she could deliver some roses to people during Valentine's Day. With her having helped out quite a bit for the Wild Patch Club, she figured it was the least she could do.
During the year, Roo and Max set out to discover the secrets of the lakefront and what lived within the lake. They didn't get too far with this however, and mostly just enjoyed each other's company. Max was quickly Roo's favourite person to be around, and she invited him over to her new place during the school break.
Roo had finished the year with decent enough grades, however she learnt that she was the least best at Transfiguration and the best at Potions and Astronomy. Classes were very much a burden to her however and she was glad to be part of clubs to help distract her from them.
Third Year
Ruto was moving into her third year and it wasn't too hard for her to pick the subjects that she wanted to pick as electives. She had chosen Ancient Runes, Arithmancy, and Divination, and soon came to like all of them, with Divination becoming her new favourite subject. It also helped that she rather enjoyed drinking tea, as the professor provided them with many cups of tea to help them learn how to read tea leaves.
For Halloween, Ruto decided to go as a doll, which was similar to her very first Halloween outfit except that it wasn't magically enhanced and wasn't as scary. She figured it was going to be hard to win anyway, so why would she bother putting in the effort if she had other things to worry about.
Ruto's grades had improved slightly from the year before, despite picking up some new subjects. She was getting used to things at Hogwarts and it was starting to feel like a home.
Fourth Year
Ruto was glad to be back for another year, despite having to attend classes again. When she came back to school however she realised that Max wasn't there anymore. He had left, and Roo wasn't even sure where he was. This made her upset, as he was the only person Roo grew to like, and she couldn't even get some closure. It brought back memories of her father leaving and she didn't like the feeling it gave her.
To distract herself, Roo joined in on the club activities. During the Winter, The Wild Patch Club held an activity where they were preparing the plants for the winter by pruning away their dead leaves. During this activity, Roo met a Gryffindor in the year below her named Fraser, who offered to help her. She enjoyed his company, but nothing was ever going to be better than Max's company.
During Ruto's fourth year, she picked out what would be her rune bag for her Ancient Runes class. The tree branches and roots represented different pathways in life, which Roo found quite fitting. The dots surrounding the tree represented the endless possibilities. Roo was happy with this purchase and it became one of her most valuable belongings.
By the end of the year, Ruto managed to get an Outstanding grade in everything except for History of Magic and Charms, and the teen found this quite surprising as she believed she didn't put much work into her studies.
Fifth Year
As Ruto started her fifth year, she was selected by her Head of House to be a prefect. This meant that she had to wear a badge on her robe that would most likely intimidate the younger students. But she didn’t care very much about it. She wasn’t going to let that alter herself. She was just the same old Ruto as she was before.
Roo signed up for Rose Deliveries again, as she quite enjoyed it last time, and she needed something else to help distract her from everyone being so tense around her as it was their OWL year. Roo didn't care for the OWL exams as she knew they weren't going to define her. She just hated how her classmates were stressing about them.
Roo finished up her OWL year with quite decent grades and she was just happy that it was all over.
Sixth Year
Heading into her Sixth year, Ruto was looking forward to a bit of a break from the tough exams. There was a new energy around and Roo liked it. She kept to herself for most of the year however, and didn't attend the Halloween Feast or sign up for Rose Deliveries. She wasn't making any new friends, and she had ultimately given up with making any more, as no one was going to be better than Max.
Seventh Year
Ruto was surprised to have obtained the title of 'Queen of Flowers' through the Wild Patch Club, alongside a Hufflepuff in her year named Zerrin, who received the title of 'King of Flowers'. The pair of them set up their stall for the club fair, and Zerrin brought along some cupcakes for everyone in true Hufflepuff fashion.
As it was her last opportunity, Roo signed up for Rose Deliveries again as she quite enjoyed the feeling that it gave her. It also distracted her from the fact that no one was delivering roses to her, as the day flew by quickly when she participated. She also felt that this was a given now that she was Queen of Flowers.
On the day of graduation, it was the day she had been waiting for. She would soon be free of schoolwork and studying. She knew exactly where she was heading and she was confident that nothing else was going to be in her way.

Personality and traits
" Insert quote here"
- ,describing Ruto's personality.
When Roo’s dad left, it really hit her negatively. There was suddenly only one person to turn to rather than two, and for the longest time Roo kept beating herself up thinking that it was her own fault that her parents had broken up. She believed they broke up because her mother didn’t want to go travelling with a child, however that was not the case, but Roo will never forgive herself and believes that if she wasn’t born that things would be very different. She is also angry at her father for breaking her mother’s heart and this makes it hard for her to forgive others.
Ever since Ruto could, her mother taught her how to draw and paint when she noticed her daughter had a creative streak. It is the only time the pair really bond and the only time they are not arguing. They have similar imaginations and both love analysing artworks and thinking about things logically. Whenever Ruto has an unanswered question, she will not give up until it is answered, even if the question seems extremely irrelevant and unnecessary.
Ruto loves collecting leaves of all different shapes, sizes and colours. She keeps them in a book along with all of her drawings, and each leaf has the exact place and time that she found it written underneath. She loves the autumn leaves the most and the sound of the leaves crunching under her sandals. The leaves with the small holes in it from the insects are also interesting to her, and she likes to guess which exact insect bit into it. Her favourite insect is the caterpillar as she believes they have rather unique appearances. The fluffy ones are the cutest in her opinion.
When Ruto is out exploring alone, she also often finds herself daydreaming underneath the clouds. She likes spending time by herself and imagining scenarios in her head where life is perfect and there is nothing to worry about. She loves feeling the wind through her hair and so will never cut her hair short. She isn’t one for sports however as she hates the idea of following rules. She much prefers to make up her own games.
Ruto is very much a leader rather than a follower. She always wants to help solve others' problems by any means necessary, and will always decide that she is the boss over everyone else, even when she has no reason to be, as she believes her ideas are always the best. She has trouble sorting out her own problems however, and is definitely a closed book when it comes to them. She doesn’t like talking about herself and so will often change the subject when she feels as though the conversation might be leaning that way.
Despite Ruto’s care-free spirit, she is very much politically inclined and extremely opinionated and stubborn. She likes to be sustainable and is always coming up with ideas on how to make things better for the environment. She can be an inventor at times if she thinks it is for the greater good, and she is always showing off her ideas to anyone, regardless of whether or not they are listening.
Ruto loves exploring and will do pretty much anything that she wants without anyone stopping her. The absence of her father has made her believe that she should just continue living, regardless of the consequences, because things could be very different tomorrow. Her ironic fear of change keeps her motivated and is one of the reasons why she always has to keep going. She is unpredictable, never wanting to stop, and that’s why she loves breaking the rules.
Ruto can be very moody at times as well. Her mood can change quickly, especially if someone says something that she doesn’t agree with or just simply doesn’t like. She finds it hard to forgive others, so instantly holds a grudge against them and doesn’t want to be friends with them anymore, making it hard for her to have friends that stick around. She isn’t the most loyal friend either and is willing to make up lies if it will benefit her in any way. She likes shiny things, so will go out of her way to steal something that she thinks is pretty and add it to her collection. She doesn’t feel guilty about doing this as she’s all about finder’s keeper’s.
Ruto has an interest in astrology and astronomy and feels that there is always an answer to everything, whether it is written in the stars or written down in a book somewhere. She’s always wanting to find an answer to it, and cares much more about what will happen in the future than looking back on the past.
